My Hip Story - Part 2 of 5 - Learning To Walk Again

By sharing openly, I hope to provide support for yogis and movers who face hip replacement surgery. I documented the entire journey, the tears and the triumphs.

In 2006, due to a pre-existing condition, I was advised to have HR surgery. I decided to do everything possible to avoid the surgery, which went quite well for about 16 years. Then severe problems in 2018, and a rapid decline in 2022. I could hardly move or walk.

My life was non-stop, excruciating pain. So I did my research, chose the method and surgeon, scheduled the surgery, and started to prepare for the Big Day.

Fortunately I have a fantastic result. 100% pain free, excellent mobility and great range of motion. I wish I’d known it can go so well for a mover and groover such as myself. 5 weeks after surgery I gave my crutches away.

6 weeks after surgery I walked into the yoga room to teach. 8 weeks after surgery I was off all pain meds. After 4 months I returned to my full range of asana. I can now do things that have not been possible for years.
